Golden Record takes over Earthly this Thursday! featuring:: Very J -- Very J is a Brooklyn-based DJ whose roots stretch back to Philadelphia and Virginia. With over a decade of experience behind the decks, Very J has become known for his eclectic and dynamic style, blending everything from Ambient to Funk, all while staying deeply rooted in the 90s New York House and Techno sound. A true vinyl enthusiast, Very J’s DJ sets are a captivating journey, always driven by improvisation and a keen ability to read the room. His sets resonate with a level of energy and fluidity that keeps dancefloors engaged all night long. Starting his musical journey with hip-hop in their childhood, Very J’s evolution into electronic music was a natural progression after moving to New York City in 2015. While working at the world-renowned A1 Record Shop, he immersed himself in the rich history of underground dance music. Their passion for vinyl led them to create NYC’s first mobile record shop, housed in a 1985 Dodge van, which he drove from Florida to New York, picking up rare finds along the way. Very J’s experience extends far beyond the decks. They’ve worked extensively in the underground scene with labels and collectives like SubBass and Resolute, pushing their sonic boundaries while collaborating with artists across genres. His signature style and discerning selection of tunes have made them a staple in Brooklyn’s vibrant club scene, with performances at some of the citys most iconic venues, including Public Records, Nowadays, Good Room, Bossa Nova Civic Club, to name a few. In addition to his club gigs, Very J holds residencies at the Popular Hi-Fi Listening Rooms: Tokyo Record Bar and Million Goods, showcasing his vast collection and commitment to memorable curation and sonic exploration. As the head of production for Sustain-Release, a semi-private Festival, situated on a summer camp in Upstate New York, they continue to shape the future of underground music with an unwavering dedication to both the craft and community. A versatile DJ and a relentless record collector, Very J is an artist whose passion for music knows no bounds. -- SAMUEL FISH An increasingly established voice in New York’s nightlife, Samuel Fish is an organizer and artist whose concerns are deeply intertwined with the underground. As a core mind behind Mizz Softee, the diversity of his tastes is reflected in the talent recruited for any event he’s involved in, ranging from classic house and techno, to emerging sounds from outer regions, and healthy doses of authentic New York after-hours grit. A digger par excellence, Sam’s selections change to slot in with his invitees or flow to their own wayward conclusions, traveling through techno, electro, early trance, deep house, wave, modern breakbeats, vintage tech house, and leftfield picks. As Mizz Softee rises to greater renown, so does her ambition, recruiting established legends, the crème de la crème of US and international tastemakers, and local luminaries with unquestionable credentials. -- HENRY CHOW The Texas born and raised, now Brooklyn based, Henry Chow's musical journey has long-lasted over the span of 20 years. His time as a talent buyer, curator, promoter under the Crossroads brand hosted one of Texas’ longest running dance parties, bringing to town some of the best talent from around the world. Chow’s experience as a DJ has also earned him international gigs and many across the US at venues such as The End Up (SF), Good Room (NY), Flash (DC), Public Records (NY) to name a few. Production wise, Chow landed his first EP on Marco Carola’s seminal Zenit imprint back in 2003. Along the way came original music and remixes released on labels such as Thoughtless Music, Harmonious Discord, G-Force, and Abiotic. In Brooklyn, Chow’s influence is continuously heard through the underground outfit named Mizz Softee. Constantly reuniting new and classic sounds, Henry’s music keep dance floors captivated and moved all night long. -- DONNY BURLIN Donny Burlin is the visionary behind Taaffe ‘Space is the Place’ an iconic DIY underground loft haven in Brooklyn, known for curating unforgettable experiences. With roots firmly planted in the early 90’s, Donny has earned a reputation as a versatile and pioneering force in the scene. Teaming up with Analog Soul, forming the ‘OEA Collective’ they have crafted a series of legendary events that pulse with energy and creativity, staying true to the underground. Additionally, Donny is one half of the downtempo collaboration ‘Stay Out West’ showcasing their passion and diversity in music.
