ONDULATION by ATOEM #2

|

About

Born in Rennes in the late 2010s, ATOEM is the result of the encounter between two sound explorers: Antoine Talon and Gabriel Renault. Both share a common fascination for physics, science, and the hypnotic power of analog machines. Their name, a contraction of Atom Heart Mother — Pink Floyd’s cult album — and Atoum, the Egyptian god of creation, immediately reflects their dual lineage: a music that is both mystical and deeply rooted in the history of electronic and psychedelic sound. From their early days in 2017, the duo drew attention thanks to a singular identity: a sonic universe where self-built or modified modular synthesizers converse with earthy rhythms, cosmic layers, and vocoder-filtered voices. Their approach deliberately blurs the boundaries between the mineral and the digital, between electronic trance and the legacy of progressive rock. Their first major breakthrough came in 2018 with a remarkable performance at the Trans Musicales de Rennes. The following year, they went on to play prestigious stages such as Les Vieilles Charrues, Solidays, and Le Printemps de Bourges. Everywhere they perform, their hypnotic live sets — where machines seem to breathe and transform under their hands — captivate audiences in search of unprecedented sensory experiences. Before their first album, ATOEM released several EPs (Ruins, Voltage Controlled Time, Enter The World’s Symmetry, Precious Land) that traced their evolution: increasingly intricate writing, a clear taste for contrasts between light and shadow, chaos and structure. In 2023, the duo reached a new milestone with the release of Entropy. This first album, conceived as a true conceptual journey, was inspired by the scientific notion of entropy: the inevitable transition from order to disorder. It carries ATOEM’s unmistakable signature — meditative, floating atmospheres, near-techno rhythmic surges, and sound textures sculpted with the precision of a goldsmith. At the same time, it reveals a new maturity, a musical storytelling where each track seems to take part in a larger narrative. Now based in Nantes, ATOEM continue their exploration of sonic possibilities, cultivating music that is both visceral and cerebral. Between electronic trance and cosmic reverie, the duo keeps writing a story that belongs as much to the dancefloor as to the inner voyager.
