Vel is a Moroccan, Paris-based artist, DJ, and producer of electronic music. When she left her hometown of Rabat at 18 years old to study engineering in Lyon, Jennifer’s life took an unexpected turn after experiencing techno music for the first time at Le Sucre: it was love at first sight. Immersing herself into the club culture, she allowed herself to ascend, becoming Vel. Returning full-circle to, she is resident at Le Sucre in Lyon since 2022. Vel’s sound pulses with life, driven by the primal force of percussion and infused with a distinctly womanly energy. Her techno is a harmonious blend of power and grace, where thunderous drums collide with ethereal whispers, invoking both strength and sensuality. These beats, deeply rooted in the ancient rhythms of her heritage, are paired with celestial voices that seem to echo from another realm. The divine feminine radiates through every track, shaping her music into a living force that captivates the senses. During her sets, Vel fearlessly explores diverse genres, from Trance to Ambient, breaking BPM constraints and creating a dynamic interplay between the raw and the refined: an alchemist of sound and rhythm. Vel has quickly risen through the ranks of the music scene, earning respect and mentorship from industry icons like Anetha and In Aeternam Vale. Her releases trace the evolution of her blossoming artistry, with three standout EPs « Who by Fire » (2020) on Unusual Records, « He Took One Cliché » (2021), and « Era L » (2022) on XX LAB, alongside numerous impactful tracks for various compilations, including her signature piece, You Taste Like Zaatar. Building on the growing strength of her live performances, Vel made waves with her debut album, There is Always a Solution, on Mama Told Ya in fall 2024. Building on this momentum, she launched her own label, PURR, in 2025, quickly establishing it with two VA compilations and her ambient album «Cuddle Protocol». Vel’s journey has taken her across Europe and now the world, with appearances at renowned venues like Basement (New York), Berghain/RSO (Berlin), Essaim (Paris), Bassiani (Tbilissi), Fold (London), Faust (Seoul), Pawnshop (Taipei). A true queen of percussion and a master of sonic subtlety, Vel’s music is a reflection of her fierce yet graceful energy. Each track she crafts, each performance she delivers is a delicate balance of raw power and refined emotion. Emotionally charged and driven by mighty high-kicks, her music is crafted with meticulous attention to sound design, channeling fresh energy into every track.
